Shooting in a southern Florida swamp, the Prehistoric Park team recreated the Carboniferous world of Scotland approximately 300 million years ago. Here Nigel poses with one of the most impressive animatronic models of the series, an intricately-detailed meganeurid dragonfly, complete with moving wings, antennae and mouthparts. The really remarkable thing is that this model is life-sized- it’s based on a fossil that boasted a monster 75-centimetre wingspan. Many scientists attribute this species’ remarkable size to the higher oxygen levels in the Earth’s atmosphere during the Carboniferous.
