Nigel's Films

Here are all the films that Nigel has hosted to date

Penguin Safari (2006)

This week-long series was filmed over forty days during October and November, the Antarctic spring, amongst the spectacular wildlife and jaw-dropping scenery of the island of South Georgia. I became friendly with the penguin stars and a supporting cast of other animal characters, as they spent the short spring courting, breeding, laying eggs, bickering and eventually feeding their newborn babies!

The first and most majestic of the penguins were the kings. They certainly deserve their royal name, as they strut around on the beach, backs straight and heads held high. The comical gentoo penguins were next. I made friends with Terry and June, the most house-proud birds Iíve ever met! And last but not least, I spent time with the faithful macaronis, Basil and Sybil, who were guarding their nest from rivals and predators amidst their colony of 80,000 birds.

With elephant seals fighting, an albatross chick learning to fly, and leopard seal attacks on unwary penguins, there was always something exciting happening in this sub-Antarctic paradise. And when you add in our camera getting swamped by a wave, our edit equipment malfunctioning, and the whole crew getting seasick, this trip was a real rollercoaster ride!
