Like Indiana Jones, I cannot stand rats! Iíll quite happily pet a spider or a worm, but rats are just beyond me. Perhaps itís their beady eyes, or maybe the long razor-sharp teeth, or the scaly tail. In order to deal with this phobia, I decided to make a one-hour film about rats, and in the process I successfully reared a pet baby rat (known as Haw-Haw) to adulthood. Along the way I met gigantic rats in Australia and Papua New Guinea, enjoyed voyaging deep into the English sewer system and finished the show inside an Indian temple swarming with holy rats! After all this, it begs the question, am I still scared of rats? A little- but nowhere near as much as I was.
